Guest Blogger from NYC: Let's Go Shopping at Alex and Lorenzo (and save 10%!)

I am so honored to have the opportunity to be a guest blogger on Matters of Style!  I live in New York City and I am always excited whenever my friends come to visit so I can share some of my favorite stores with them.  Last fall when MOS Charlotte visited New York, the first place I knew I had to take her was Alex and Lorenzo.  Alex and Lorenzo is an adorable home décor store that focuses on home accessories and tabletop pieces.

Kristen McLaughlin, the owner of Alex and Lorenzo, used to work on Wall Street as an Equity Sales Trader, but after taking time off to raise her children she knew that she wanted to go back to work, but this time in a new field.  Kristen wanted to do something that she was passionate about, and she always loved interior design but knew that she didn't want to be an interior decorator…she loves the accessorizing!  Kristen has a daughter and son whose names are Alex and Lorenzo, and she never considered any other name for her store.

Alex and Lorenzo has a great variety of home accessories and tabletop pieces that you could not find anywhere else…even in New York!  Here are a few of favorite items...but first we should mention that Alex & Lorenzo is offering 10% off to Matters of Style readers! So if you have a few last-minute gifts to purchase this weekend or some Christmas money burning a hole in your pocket next week, stop on by and save a little!

This mother pig with three baby piglets is so charming!  What a great addition to any country or farmhouse kitchen.

Mother pig and baby piglets, $75

I saw an elephant like this in MOS Charlotte’s Nursery and I can’t stop thinking about how cute it is!  It would be perfect in my bedroom.  It would look great on the same bookcase as the elephant bookends that I bought at Alex and Lorenzo this fall.

Elephant Teapot, $40

I must confess that I have a soft spot for all things nautical, and Alex and Lorenzo never disappoints me with their unique collection of coral and sea inspired pieces.  Here are a few of my favorites:

This sea urchin lamp is so unique.  It is a great conversation piece and you definitely cannot find this in the Pottery Barn catalog!  If my husband happens to be reading this blog, please take note of how much I love this lamp!

Sea urchin lamp with red shade, $275

I believe MOS Charlotte picked up a set of these attractive coral prints on her last trip to New York!

Mirrored frame coral prints, $75 each

These coral antique jars are the perfect punch of color for any blue and white beach inspired bathroom.

Coral Jars, $40 each

One thing Kristen is known for is her collection of Guinea Hens made in Provence, France.  Here are a few of the hens she has in her store window:

These Guniea Hens vary in price according to their size: $125 small, medium $145, Large $165

Kristen also has a great variety of Foo Dogs.  I just recently was on the hunt for the perfect set of Foo Dogs for my apartment and I decided on this turquoise:

Turquoise Foo Dogs, $65

And here are a few other options she currently has in stock:

Alex and Lorenzo has also become my go to shop for gifts.  Kristen will wrap any gift with gorgeous orange paper and a brown bow.  Whenever I visit one of my many hospitable friends I know that I can always find the perfect hostess gift at Alex and Lorenzo.  For example, this gorgeous soap would be perfect in any beach house!  I will have to pick up a few if I make my way back to Chatham this summer…

Soap and wooden dish, $22

I know that the MOS girls love trays and so do I!  Alex and Lorenzo has a variety of trays including this seasonal one with red and green amaryllis. I bought a similar version with coral and seashells at the store this summer.

Amaryllis tray, $40

And when just any tray won’t do, this Dom Perignon vintage inspired tray would be a classic touch for any bar:

Dom Perignon tray, $550

Alex and Lorenzo is located slightly off the beaten track on East 78th Street near the corner of York Avenue.  Kristen has a great collection of one of a kind, well priced home accessories and tabletop pieces.  Alex and Lorenzo may be moving soon to location in the 70s and Lexington Avenue.  We will keep you posted on the store’s possible move!  Until then Kristen is offering a 10% discount to all MOS readers through the end of January.  If you find yourself in New York City I recommend that you take a trip over to visit the store, and keep your eyes open for a Alex and Lorenzo giveaway on MOS soon!
