As a little girl, one of my favorite days of the year was the day we went shopping for our Easter dresses. It meant spring was officially here, and summer (beach trips, swim team, camp, no school!) was just around the corner. Sometimes our Easter dresses were smocked; sometimes they were pink and flowery from Laura Ashley.
We bought white purses to carry to church, stuffed to the brim with treats we had found from the Easter bunny that morning. Easter was the day we finally could trade in our black patent leather winter shoes for shiny white mary janes. I remember looking forward to the day I was finally old enough to wear shoes without straps. Or at least the "convertible" ones with the straps that folded back on my heel.
Those days are long gone, and I haven't bought an official "Easter dress" in years (although a certain baby boy will be donning a jon jon suit with green smocked frogs on the collar on Sunday). But a daytime dress for the spring/ summer is an important part of every wardrobe.
