Favourite SA Books

Since Sundays are perfect for relaxing and reading, I though I'd finish off my South African week with a post on some of my favourite SA books.

South African books

Decor:
shack chic by Craig Fraser
A really amazing book on the creative interiors of shacks in Cape Town. This book highlights the clever and vibrant style of these small spaces and shows you that not only wealthy, large homes have merit.

hot afro by Craig Fraser
A fantastic collection of some of South Africa's most creative individuals and their homes. Plenty of inspiration and South African style.

Food:
Sumptuous and Delectable by Marlene van der Westhuizen
Both of these cook books are an absolute visual treat of gorgeous recipes and settings. A mix of French and South African styles as Marlene lives between the two countries, the amazing photos will have you drooling over decadent dishes and wanting to visit both countries!

bake by Tina Bester
A delicious compilation of sweet treats and savoury delights. Perfectly styled photos and tasty recipes make this a must have.

comfort by Tina Bester
This is Tina's latest book and perfect for Winter, full of hearty wholesome recipes. The ultimate in Comfort food recipes!

Fiction:
Karma Suture by Rosamund Kendal
Rosamund studied medicine for six years and worked as a doctor for five years and then decided to write a book to get her creative side going. This book is a hilarious and moving inside look at the life of a young Capetonian doctor. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to read her second book, The Angina Monologues.

The Bed Book of Short Stories edited by Joanne Hichens
This collection of short stories has been compiled by thirty women from various countries in Southern Africa. All the stories are centered around the theme of the Bed and vary from quirky and humorous to sad and tragic. I still need to get hold of a copy especially since a friend of mine wrote one of the stories!

Interior Magazines:
And lastly my three favourite SA decor mags...
House and Leisure
Visi
Elle Decoration

Hopefully this inspires you to get reading, have a lovely Sunday!
