Fab or Fug: Brogues for Her

Apparently the MoS girls need a lot of help making up our minds today- we're getting a little fuzzy what with all this snow! First there was ScarJo's LA home, and now we're feeling positively confounded by this sudden trend in menswear-inspired ladies' shoes. Classic oxfords and brogues usually relegated to his closet are being scaled down and peddled to women, and we're not quite sure what to make of it.

Have you noticed brogues and oxfords popping up more frequently? Upon opening the new J Crew catalog I spied the Camden Brogue...

Where we'd normally see ballet flats or heels, J Crew is swapping in the brogue; for example, styled here with destroyed, rolled up jeans.

Shoe seller to the masses Steve Madden has his own version, the Melin, in a variety of colors (and I can already tell you I'll be skipping the two tone)!

Generally when The Sartorialist posts a certain look I know I have to give it some consideration. A little global inspiration is good for everyone. I'd trade outfits with this woman in a second.

Really loving Joie's relaxed, laceless version (left). And we much prefer the menswear-inspired oxfords to those that enter the realm of a glorified jazz shoe, like Joan and David's (right).

On Net-a-Porter you'll find classic Church's brogues, styled in a more menswear-inspired fashion. I can see this working on women who can rock that that gamine look- super skinny, polished, and poised, a la Audrey Hepburn. And Carey Mulligan.

Jil Sander's laceless slip-on brogues in white leather...well those might take a bit more creativity to get away with. After all, if they don't even look good on the model....

Although Sienna's doing an ok job in a similar style here. Love her or hate her, IMHO, the girl can dress. She always looks effortlessly put together.

So what are you thinking about brogues and oxfords? Leave them in your husband's closet? Or give them a whirl and let your ballet flats have the day off?
